Matthew Roberts


Matthew Roberts grew up in Akron, OH where he began his training under the direction of Everett N. Deck, Jr. and later at the University of Akron’s Dance Institute.  After graduating high school, Matthew attended Marymount Manhattan College, graduating with a BFA in dance with a concentration in Choreography.  He has performed works by Lar Lubovitch, Robert Battle, Jessica Lang, and Shen Wei as well as choreographing five pieces of his own.  Under the direction of Mayuna Shimizu, Matthew performed with the Blue Muse Dance in The Circle Bridge.  With LDT, Matthew has performed roles in Luna Mexicana, Jangala, the Boy Next Door in A Jazzy Nutcracker, the trio in Simple Gifts, and the Poet in Evening. His newest creation, Eden, received its debut with the New York faith-based contemporary dance company, Awakening Movement, as part of their Third Annual Fall Concert. This is his fourth season with Lustig Dance Theatre.
