Pulcinella

Pulcinella Umbrella

Danced to the sumptuous neo-classic score composed by Igor Stravinsky, Mr. Lustig is exploring Commedia dell’arte, the Italian form of theatre that began in the mid-16th century characterized by masked “types” of iconic characters.  Pulcinella was a prominent stage figure that emerged from the Neapolitan tradition and has derived into various forms elsewhere, the most famous as the puppet character, Punch, of the famous “Punch and Judy” shows in England.  A farcical forerunner to slap stick, Commedia dell’arte is the perfect setting for this high spirited romp to one of the world’s greatest pieces of music.
